On Sunday, June 5th 2016 at 10:30am we will be holding the fourth annual Dixon/Holden Tonsina 5k in memory of our father, Jerry Dixon, and our cousin, Seth Holden. Both were incredible people who loved Alaska and spent almost every waking moment skiing, rafting, climbing, and exploring our beautiful wilderness. Everything about this race - from the adventurous course layout to the lack of a race fee - is based off of the ideals and passions of these two men. All the proceeds from voluntary donations go to grants and endowments set up in their names that further outdoor education and adventure.
Important - Course change! This year the race will start at the trail-head parking lot at Lowell Point, and ends at Tonsina Beach. This way we can all spend more time enjoying the beach area after the race. The post-race celebration will also take place right at the finish line on Tonsina Beach, and will begin as soon as racers start coming in. Registration Entry this year is limited to the first 60 runners/walkers that sign up! (update - there are still 6 spots available as of today) Click on the registration tab at the top of the page for more info. Carpool Info Please carpool! There is limited parking at Lowell Point (if you do park there it's important to pay the parking fee to support our amazing park) and so we are asking for people to try and carpool from the Branson Pavilion parking lot out to Lowell Point if you can. Post-Race Celebration There will be a change in the post-race celebration (as well as the course) this year, and it will take place on Tonsina Beach following the race at around noon, with food, beverages, and awards and a raffle for the racers. The course this year will end on Tonsina Beach as well. The top male and female times will be winning free guided trips on Exit Glacier thanks to generous donations from Exit Glacier Guides, and other prizes donated from business around town will be raffled off to everyone who raced, volunteered, or helped donate in any way. |
Donations
Instead of a normal race fee, we are asking if runners will make a donation that will go to the Seth Holden Alaska Remote Exploration grant, and the Jerry S. Dixon Award for Excellence in Environmental Education. There is a donation tab at the top of the webpage with more information about how to donate and the grants, or click the link below.
